BILLS RECAP

The Jacksonville Jaguars did the unthinkable last Sunday as they beat the Buffalo Bills, 9-6. The Bills came into Jacksonville as a 15-point favorite, and virtually nobody picked the Jags to pull the upset. The story coming into the game was that Bills QB Josh Allen would be playing against Jacksonville’s edge rusher, Josh Allen. Josh Allen of the Jaguars unquestionably won the battle as he had eight tackles, a sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery and was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Offensively, the Jaguars did not perform well as there were multiple drops by the receivers, and the Jags’ best player, RB James Robinson, was not available due to injury.

COLTS PREVIEW

This weekend, the Jaguars will be traveling to Indianapolis to battle the Colts. This game will likely come down to if the Jaguars can have a similar performance on defense as they did against Buffalo. They have done a good job stopping the run this year, so the emphasis will be a solid pass rush and good coverage in the secondary. Offensively, the Jags have a good opportunity to throw the ball because Indy struggles against the passing game. It will be interesting to see which Jaguars team comes to play as they have been very inconsistent this season. They can win against the Colts, but it’s difficult to trust this Jaguars team to put complete games together.

I think it’ll be a close game that will come down to the last few minutes. Ultimately, I think the Colts will come out on top, but it’ll be nice to see the Jaguars keep it close. Colts win 27-17.

COLTS RECAP

The Jaguars fell to the Colts on Sunday, 23-17. The Jaguars did not play particularly well on offense, especially in the first half. Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence struggled immensely in the first half, but he did not receive much help from his receivers, who have continued to struggle to get open and catch passes. The second half seemed much better for the offense as they were able to make the game 20-17 with around 9 minutes in the first quarter. However, after a long drive from Indy that resulted in a field goal, the Jags were forced to quickly move the ball down the field with only a couple of minutes left. At midfield, Lawrence scrambled to try and get back to the line of scrimmage when he fumbled the ball. The Colts recovered, and that essentially ended the game. The receivers ended the day with five drops, and Lawrence finished the day 16/35 for 162 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions.

JAGUARS ANALYSIS

Jacksonville still has a long way to go. Defensively, the team has played much better over the last two games, with former 1st round pick Taven Bryan finally showing up and making a difference. However, the offense has become abysmal to watch as they cannot seem to get anything going. Hopefully, the team can improve over the rest of the season, but there will likely not be any significant improvements until free agency and NFL Draft season. The primary focus should continue to make sure Trevor Lawrence is improving and developing into a quarterback that can be built around. Up next is a home date with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 1:00. The game is surely winnable, but it will require Jacksonville’s offense to really dig deep and play much better than they have over the last three weeks.
